Grade 7 Band Concert & Holiday Sing Along-Although our annual school concert is scheduled for late spring this year, we have not forgotten about the holiday season! Please feel free to join us on Friday, Dec. 22 (9:00 am) for our Grade 7 band concert and school sing-along (led by our Intermediate Choir)!

Communicating Student Learning-As has been the case in the Surrey School District for the past couple of years, teachers have the option of formally communicating student learning/progress through a paper-based report (PDF Template) or through an online option called Freshgrade. Although most subject areas will be reported on once during the school year and once at the end of the year, Language Arts and Mathematics will be commented on at least once per term. Term #1 comments will be shared with you on, or before, Tuesday, Dec. 12. For more information regarding Communicating Student Learning in Surrey, please go to the following web-site: http://www.sd36csl.com

Parent-Teacher Conferences-Parents wishing to discuss their child’s progress in school are always welcome to contact the teacher to arrange a meeting for this purpose, and many have already done so this term. However, if you have spe-cific questions regarding your child’s progress that have not already been ad-dressed, a limited number of timeslots (15 minutes at a time) will be available for parent-teacher conferencing on Thursday, Dec. 14th (2:45-4:45; 5:15-7:00 pm). Parents can contact the school office directly, beginning Monday, Dec. 11, to book an appointment. **Just a note that this day is NOT an early dismissal day.

Field Trips and Parent Volunteers-We are very fortunate to have so many parents and grandparents who are able to volunteer their time in the school. Without you, so much of what is offered at Martha Currie would not be possible, and we are very grateful for the help that you provide! (We also understand and respect the fact many parents are unable to volunteer during the school day due to work obligations, etc.) With respect to field trips, we are most appreciative when all participants (students and adults) follow the guidelines and policies that the educator-in-charge (ie., the teacher) may establish for a particular trip. At this time of year, many of our clas-ses are participating in ice skating field trips, which are different from public skating sessions that a family might enjoy outside of school hours. For these trips, not only are students developing their skating skills, but they are also learning to make safe choices when participating in a physical activity. As such, we require all adults to act as role models to the students by wearing a helmet while on the ice. Also, for safety reasons, we are unable to permit other children (eg., pre-school siblings, etc.) to be on the ice during our skating field trips. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Our Winter Hot lunch session is now open for ordering! Online ordering will close December 10th at 11:59pm. All pay-ments will be due by December 11th, by 2:30 at the Martha Currie office. Given the size of our school and the magnitude of the orders being processed we would greatly appreciate orders being placed online. If you have not ordered in the past, to set up your account – go to https://marthacurrie.hotlunches.net and register (HOTLUNCH is always the access code). If you ordered by paper earlier this year, we have already set up an account for you. We will be sending you an e mail shortly with your log in details. If you are reluctant to pay online, enter your order online and then pay with cash or a cheque. Popcorn orders can also be done at the same time. This Winter session we are pleased to announce 2 new suppliers – White Spot and Montana’s will be available this session as a trial. Please note that you will no longer be able to sign up for Hot Lunch volunteering through your lunch order. A email will be sent out on Wednesday from our PAC Volunteer Coordinator detailing the new sign up system.
